Quiçama National Park
Quiçama National Park, also known as Kissama National Park is a national park in north-western Angola and it covers 12,000 km².
Kissama National Park was once home to an abundance of large animals such as elephants and Giant Sable, but after wide-scale poaching during the 25 years of civil war, the animal population was almost eliminated. In 2001, the Kissama Foundation, initiated ‘Operation Noah’s Ark’ to transport animals, especially elephants, from neighbouring Botswana and South Africa. These animals, who were from overpopulated parks in their home countries, adapted well to the move and made Noah’s Ark operation the largest successful animal transplant of its kind in history.
The Tunda Vala Fissure
Between the cities of Lubango and Namibe at an elevation of 2,600 meters above sea level, the Tunda-Vala volcanic fissure, is one of the most spectacular natural sights in Angola. The Tundavala Gap is a viewpoint in the edge of a steep slope called Serra da Leba.
The fissure is commonly reached by thrill-seeking hikers, and at this height, the views are spectacular. The view is arguably one of the best in Africa. As well as its sheer rock face, the Tundavala has patches of savanna, grass and forest landscapes.
Dala Waterfalls
The Dala Waterfalls are located in Lunda Sol and sum up to about 60 meters in height and are also known as the Chiumbe River waterfalls. The mist and spray from the crashing of water on the rocks create a breathtaking scene. The waterfalls can be comfortably viewed from the bridge build on the rivers lower zone.
However, for those who truly love the scene, a hotel is built only 50m away from the waterfalls.
