best places to visit in barbados
Bridgetown
Bridgetown is the capital and largest city of Barbados. It is a beautiful place to wander around, shop, or grab a meal and it is easy to navigate by foot since most sights are close to each other.
The Parliament Buildings are one of the must-see landmarks of Bridgetown and are characterized by the neo-Gothic style architecture and clock tower. In addition, the National Heroes Square is also a main site of the city you shouldn’t miss. The Careenage (or Constitution River) lies below the Chamberlain Bridge, from which you can see yachts tied up along the waterway and the colorful buildings next to the waterside walkway.
Bathsheba
Bathsheba is the main fishing village in the parish of Saint Joseph on the east coastline of Barbados. The place has quite a few churches (i.e., Saint Joseph’s Anglican Church) as well as attractions including the Flower Forest and Cotton Tower. One of the most notable places in Bathsheba is Bathsheba Bay.
Bathsheba bay is also known as the Soup Bowl and hosts local and international surfing competitions annually. Another notable feature of Bathsheba beach is the large rock that sits slightly offshore, known as Bathsheba Rock. The special rock formation has been created by the remains of ancient coral reefs eroded by waves.
Barbados Wildlife Reserve
The Barbados Wildlife Reserve is located in the parish of Saint Peter, in Barbados. It is an area of mahogany forest near the top of Farley Hill, next to Grenade Hall Signal Station and Forest. The reserve started out as an attempt to conserve and study green monkeys (17th century), and was then expanded into a wildlife reserve in 1985.
In addition to the green monkeys, which roam freely in and out of the fenced area, the wildlife reserve is also home to a variety of other animals, many of which roam the reserve freely without separation from visitors. These include red brockets, red-footed tortoises, Patagonian maras, Cuban rock iguanas, and numerous caged tropical birds.
