Legal Requirements for Travel Insurance

Although this Costa Rica travel insurance is not legally required, having it can make a huge difference in the event of a mishap. However, many travelers still opt for insurance to cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and other unforeseen issues.

Current Travel Health Guidelines

While Costa Rica has been relatively safe for tourists, there are always health risks that can occur when travelling, especially in tropical destinations. Having medical coverage as part of your travel insurance is crucial in case you fall ill or need emergency care.

Types Of  Costa Rica Travel Insurance

Medical Coverage

Medical emergencies can happen anytime, and healthcare costs can add up quickly. Your travel insurance should include medical coverage that will cover doctor visits, hospital stays, and medication, ensuring you’re protected no matter what.

Trip Cancellation Coverage

Plans sometimes change. Whether it’s due to illness, severe weather, or other unforeseen events, trip cancellation insurance reimburses you for non-refundable expenses such as flights and hotels if you need to cancel.

Baggage Loss and Delay

Losing your luggage is a nightmare for any traveller. Travel insurance can help cover the costs of replacing lost or delayed baggage, ensuring you’re not left without essentials.

Adventure and Activity Coverage

Costa Rica is a hotspot for adventure tourism. If you’re planning to hike through jungles, surf the Pacific waves, or zipline through the rainforest, make sure your travel insurance covers high-risk activities.

Costa Rica boasts high-quality hospitals and clinics, especially in major cities like San José. However, in more remote areas, facilities may be limited, making it essential to have coverage that includes medical evacuation if needed.

In the event of a serious illness or injury, your travel insurance for Costa Rica should cover the cost of emergency medical evacuation to the nearest adequate medical facility or even back home if necessary.

Arenal Volcano National Park

The Arenal Volcano National Park is found in Cordillera de Tilarán, in north-western Costa Rica. The main attraction here is the Arenal Volcano, which is an active stratovolcano (a conical volcano built up from many layers of hardened lava). It amounts to at least 1,633 meters in height and has a crater of 140 meters in diameter.

Arenal was dormant for years until a massive eruption in 1968, which killed 82 people and destroyed two villages. Since then, it has remained active and, depending on the day or week, visitors can expect to see anything from a cloud of ash to glowing red lava flowing down the mountain. The park is also known for its wide range of biodiversity, with approximately half of all Costa Rican birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals represented somewhere within its boundaries.

Dominical

Dominical is a beach-front town in Bahía Ballena District, in the province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. It is well known for large, year-round waves and is popular among surfers in Costa Rica. The town began as a small fishing village but has since grown into a tourist attraction, most notably for surfers.

The lovely beaches, cheap accommodation, casual open-air restaurants, and a great bohemian vibe all make this town so unique. A long stretch of beach fronts the town and under the shady trees, vendors set up tables and sell crafts and other items. In recent years, the once dirt streets have been paved, sidewalks have been bricked, and what was formerly a dusty beach town has become a much more refined tourist destination.

The biggest draw to this area is the large number of turtles (hence the name) that come to nest along the shoreline. The best time to see them nesting is in April and May, but if you’re visit Costa Rica during the off-season, you’ll still be able to go hiking and participate in canal cruises. However, there’s lots of wildlife to see year-round.
