Asmara
Asmara is the capital and most populous city of Eritrea. At an elevation of 2,325 meters, it is the sixth-highest capital in the world by altitude.
The city combines two extremes: on the one side you’ll feel like you’ve just arrived at a small village somewhere in Italy and on the flip side you won’t miss noticing some of the harsh economic conditions like power cuts, deserted streets, and slow business. Despite that, Asmara is one of the most pleasant cities you’re likely to visit in Africa. In 2017, the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well-preserved modernist architecture. Most of the historic area has remained untouched since its conception in the 1930s.
Dahlak Marine National Park
The park is flourishing with wildlife. You’ll find turtles, dolphins, and manta rays and there are an estimated 325 different species of fish in the waters surrounding the region. Scuba diving is now allowed in the area and is led by a group of trained scuba divers. Underwater volcanoes have made incredible volcanic stone formations and the many shipwrecks around the islands make for some of the most incredible diving experiences.
Keren
