Guadeloupe National Park
Guadeloupe National Park is a national park in Guadeloupe designated a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
Nature lovers of all kinds will find something to love at the park. Among its many attractions are 300 km of hiking trails; La Soufrière volcano at 1,467 meters; Col de la Matéliane at 1,298 meters; and a wide range of plants and animals, including 100 species of orchids and 11 species of bats. Bird-watchers will enjoy the diversity here, with resident species such as the black woodpecker, pearly-eyed thrasher, and Lesser Antillean pewee. One of the fun activities to do here is taking a trail to a series of waterfalls on the lower slopes of the volcano, known as Les Chutes du Carbet (Carbet Falls).
Terre-de-Haut Island
Terre-de-Haut Island is the eastern and most populous island of the archipelago of Les Saintes in Guadeloupe.
At the island’s main village, Bourg des Saintes, the “Sugarloaf” volcanic hill overlooks a curved blue bay fringed by white sand. The European-in-character houses, with whitewashed walls, red-tile roofs, and colorful gardens create the unique feel of the island. Terre-de-Haut is a peaceful place to simply wander around and soak up the local life or rent a scooter or golf cart to explore. If beach time is your main mission, Plage de Pompierre is a calm, curvaceous bay, with picnic benches and swaying palms, whereas Crawen has a wilder feel.
