The American Memorial Park on the island of Saipan, in the Northern Mariana Islands, was created as a memorial honoring the sacrifices made during the Marianas Campaign of World War II.
Recreational facilities, a World War II Museum, and a flag monument keep alive the memory of over 5,000 US military personnel and local islanders who died in June 1944. This turbulent time in Northern Marianas Island history is further represented in an exhibit hall display. The park also contains a peaceful beach, scenic pathway, playground, and plenty of green space for picnics and active pursuits.
Mount Tapochau
Mount Tapochau is the highest point on the island of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. It is located in the center of the island and rises to a height of 474 meters. The mountain offers a 360-degree view of the island, which contributed to it being a vital aspect of World War II.
The peak was once a major battleground between the US and Japanese forces, but today, Mount Tapochau has resumed its traditional status as a place of peace. Each Good Friday, a new cross is placed next to the countless others which have been placed at the summit over the years. When at the peak of Mount Topachau on a clear day, you can not only see the neighboring islands but also as far as Anatahan and Rota.
Managaha Island
Managaha Island is an uninhabited island in the Northern Mariana Islands. Despite its small size, surrounded by a beautiful blue sea, it is well-equipped with restaurants, gift shops, showers, and lockers, allowing visitors to spend a comfortable and worry-free time.
The island offers a variety of marine sports, including snorkeling, parasailing, and banana boat rides. Even beginners can enjoy diving, as there are courses ranging from beginner-friendly programs to full certification courses.
