Apia

Apia is the capital of Samoa, and it’s the only city located on the central north coast of Upolu, Samoa’s second-largest island.

Make sure you visit the wonderful Maketi Fou, a popular food market, on Fugalei Street, and taste fresh fruits and vegetables. You can also walk for about ten minutes from this food market to discover an amazing place to shop for exquisite jewelry, and lovely baskets, and enjoy traditional Samoan music. Lastly, you wouldn’t want to miss the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, which suffered damage in the earthquake of 2009 and has now been restored to its former glory.

Alofaaga Blowholes

The Alofaaga Blowholes, also known as the Taga Blowholes, are a natural feature located on the island of Savai’i in Samoa.

In this area, lava flows created a series of tubes connecting a flat clifftop of lava rock with the ocean below. Waves breaking against the lower end of the lava tubes send water at high pressure up through the tubes, creating fountains that spray every few seconds. When the locals of the village throw the coconuts into these blowholes, you can watch them blast into the air when the water hits the shoreline.

Uoplu

Upolu is Samoa’s second biggest but most inhabited island, abode to the busy epicenter of Apia.

The moderate coastal street serpentine through quiet small villages and around excellent bays, with enticing bends guiding you out to awesome beaches or up into the mountainous inner parts. In some spots the island is not defended by the edging reef, meaning attractive surf rolls in to beat the open volcanic coasts; in other locations, the lagoon is calm, transparent, and crowded with dazzling tropical fish.
