Berbera
Berbera is the capital of the Sahil region of Somalia as well as the main seaport of the country.
The coastal city of Berbera was once walked by Ottoman imperialists and existed as a focal point for traders from right across the Indian Ocean basin. It’s a history that was made possible by the presence of one of the few deep-water ocean ports on this section of the African Horn, and today, the city is still known as the major harbor in the area. Berbera offers gorgeous desert-like backcountry, along with sun-kissed beaches, such as Batalale and Bathela that fringe the Gulf of Aden near the town.
Lag Badana National Park
Lag Badana National Park (Bushbush National Park) was the first national park established in Somalia and is located on the far southern coast.
This is a land of waxy palm trees and golden sands, where the slow wash of the Indian Ocean kisses the shore and where stilted bungalows of bamboo mix with the coconut groves. The park could be a veritable paradise, but the brutal conflicts that have engulfed the southern regions of Somalia, where the reserve is located, have taken over the region. When they end, perhaps this wonderful land of tropical beauties will be a must-visit once again.
