best places to visit in the british virgin islands
The Baths
The Baths is a beach area on the island of Virgin Gorda among the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. The busy anchorage is one of the British Virgin Islands’ most famous landmarks.
This distinctive bay is scattered with giant granite boulders, creating sea pools and small caves that are perfect for snorkeling and exploring. The large rocks form a sand-bottomed cave is one of the most photographed areas in the British Virgin Islands. Additionally, the Baths were declared a national park in 1990 in an effort to preserve this beautiful boulder-strewn bay.
Road Town
Road Town, located on Tortola, is the capital of the British Virgin Islands. It is situated on the horseshoe-shaped Road Harbor in the center of the island’s south coast.
Road Town is named for Tortola’s principal harbor, Road Bay, and is the commercial center of the entire British Territory. The harbor is often crowded with charter yachts, ferries, and the occasional cruise ship. On Waterfront Drive and Main Street you can find some of the most attractive shops of the area with historic fronts and sugar mills – some of which were made 200 years ago. Other than shopping, one of the top things to do in Road Town is to walk around the J.R. O’Neal Botanic Gardens, where you’ll find a vast area of tropical flowers, palms, koi ponds, and fountains.
