Cartagena
Cartagena, known since the colonial era as Cartagena de Indias, is a city and one of the major ports on the northern coast of Colombia in the Caribbean Coast Region. It is one of the best-preserved colonial destinations in the Americas.
Walking through the historic walled city, you may feel as if you’ve stepped back in time to a different era. Cartagena has 13 km of centuries-old walls, and colourful colonial architecture. Many of the ancient buildings have now become beautifully restored restaurants and luxury hotels. The bougainvillea-covered balconies, the labyrinthine streets and the soaring Catholic churches that tower above every plaza all combine and make visitors fall in love with this Caribbean charmer.
Eje Cafetero
Colombia, being the world’s third-largest producer of coffee beans, is a fantastic country for tastings and tours. Most of the production takes place in the subtropical Andean hills west of Bogota between the small cities of Armenia, Pereira, and Manizales.
This region is known as the Eje Cafetero (or Coffee Axis), and is home to a growing number of coffee plantations that have opened up their operations to the public in recent years for tours, tastings, and farm stays. Due to the cultural importance and cultural landscape of the coffee region, UNESCO proceeded to declare part of this area as a World Heritage Site in 2011.
