Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape

Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape sprawls along the banks of the Orkhon River in Central Mongolia, about 320 km west of the capital Ulaanbaatar. It was inscribed by UNESCO on the World Heritage List as representing the development of nomadic pastoral traditions spanning more than two millennia.

The World Heritage Tag honors this great tradition of nomad living; still seen today, when white-fabric yurts pop up between the gallery pines. Of course, Orkhon is now a major attraction, and travelers flock to see the ruins of legendary Karakorum, seek the fabled palaces of Xanadu, wonder at frozen waterfalls, and find serenity in the rustic Buddhist monasteries.

Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar, previously anglicized as Ulan Bator, is the capital and most populous city of Mongolia.

The concrete sprawl and reflective glass skyscrapers, and endless neighborhoods of Soviet-style blocks constantly expanding, create a packed yet beautiful city. Ulaanbaatar is brash, bold, big, and loud, and comes packed with designer outlets and all-new shopping malls. Nevertheless, there’s a certain crude charm to be found below the bright lights too, whether that’s in the 19th-century palace of Bogd Khaan, the fascinating National Museum of Mongolia, or in the shadow of Genghis Kahn’s great monument.

OCEANIA

Oceania is in a continental group consisting of 14 countries and includes Pacific islands and Australia. Often Australia is named as a continent, but this means that the many islands and countries except Australia would then be not included. Oceania in fact is mostly ocean and spans a vast area as you can see below.
